A group, Concerned Youths of Lokoja, has called on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, to as a matter of urgency, look into the delay in the appointment of a new monarch for Lokoja.
The group said seven months after the demise of the last Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji (Dr) Mohammodu Kabir Maikarfi 111, Lokoja has continued to remain without a monarch.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the group’s Coordinator, Mr James Babatunde, a copy which was made available to National Watch, “It is unfortunate that Lokoja, which is the state capital will for more than seven months be without a monarch.
“As concerned youths of Lokoja, we have waited enough and we feel that the state capital can’t continue to be without a traditional ruler, hence, our call to Governor Yahaya Bello to quickly intervene.
“We hope that His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, will look into our plea and appoint a new Maigari for Lokoja because it is the state capital and it deserves a monarch,” the statement read.
The inability of the Kogi State government to announce a new monarch after the transition of the last occupant of the stool has generated concerns among the residents of the community.
Recall that the stool of Maigari of Lokoja became vacant following the death of Alhaji (Dr) Mohammodu Kabir Maikarfi 111 on September 28, 2022.
