Barrister Abdullahi Haruna, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a governorship Aspirant in the just concluded primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has said he stayed away from the process because the leadership of the party endorsed a preferred candidate hours before the election.
The Senior Advocate who did not show up at the venue of the primary election on Sunday explained that he came into the race with the conviction that the party leadership would ensure that the best candidate emerged in a free and fair process that would instill confidence in the electorate and give the party the needed massive support across the state at the November 2023 election.
He said had prepared for the primary election for months campaigning tirelessly, meeting with constituents, and outlining his plans for the future of Kogi State saying he had been confident that the party was focused on taking decisions that would ensure it would win the November election and make a difference in the lives of the people of Kogi State
However, just hours before the primary election, Barrister Abdullahi Haruna made the shocking announcement he was staying away from the race out of respect for the wisdom of the state party leadership.
The news came as a surprise to his mammoth supporters who believed that his involvement in the politics and governance of the state since 1992 would have brought tremendous developmental benefits.
He thanked his supporters and the leadership of the party promising to remain committed to the decisions of the PDP in the state and to work for its success in the future.
He also assured that he would continue to advocate issues that would be crucial to the good governance of Kogi State and end the hardship being faced by the ordinary people.
The Frontline aspirant noted that; “Politics was not always about winning or losing. “Sometimes, it is about making difficult decisions and looking into the future for more rewarding options that will better serve the interest of the ordinary people.”
