As the struggle among the zones in Kogi State to take a shot at the Lord Lugard House, Lokoja, gathered momentum, a group, ‘Kogi West Interest Group’ has passed a vote of conference on Senator Smart Adeyemi, and commended him for his struggles and agitation for power shift to Kogi West.
The group passed the confidence vote on Adeyemi at a press conference held at Kewon Hotels, Lokoja on Tuesday.
Addressing newsmen at the briefing , Comrade Isiaka Sulieman, Convener of the group said as concerned citizens of the state, the level of injustice and marginalisation of the Kogi West Senatorial District called for critical and urgent attention.
He explained that the agitation for power rotation gave birth to the formation of the group in the state.
According to him, since the creation of Kogi State in 1991 and till date, the struggle for power and control of the state had often pitted the various ethnic groups and Senatorial Districts against each other.
He added that the scenario had left a certain level of mistrust and mutual suspicion amongst the three major ethnic groups in the state, lamenting that it had in no small measure undermined the unity and prosperity of the people.
“It is with hindsight of this historical burden, and with a deep sense of introspection that we seek to give voice and face to the clamour for a situation where we all feel a sense of belonging. Thus, the conception and birth of this organization; Kogi West Interest Group, that the next Governor of Kogi State be made to emerge from Kogi West.
“While the Eastern Senatorial District had its reign for a long period, the clamor for power shift and rotation by the other major contending Districts never stopped. In fact, it remained the loudest in our history.
Sulieman further called on other leaders in the senatorial district to join hands with Senator Adeyemi in the struggle.

A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON DISTINGUHISED SENATOR SMART ADEYEMI (CON) AND THE POSITION OF KOGI WESTERN SENATORIAL DISTRICT ON NOVEMBER 2023 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
This press conference is necessitated by the recent happenings in our dear Kogi State, every decent society is built on the principles of equalities and collective participations in leadership and development.
The position of Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi (CON) is devoid of personal interest and self – gratification rather it is structured upon his usual desire and support for Justice, equity and fairness among the three senatorial districts of Kogi State.
Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi have never shown desperation in course of his political progression like other politicians who will have rushed to pick – up ticket in another political party considering his political strength, followership and acceptance across the three senatorial district but he choose to stand on the path of truth and justice.
History will not forget his sacrifice and he stands in the course of libration of Kogi Western Senatorial district.
In line with this background and the current calculated and satanic attempt to malign the person of Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi (CON) and put him in the bad light must be seen as an attack of evil against good and most be resisted by well meaning kogites that stand for truth, equity and justice.
Kogi West as a senatorial District that has supported and assisted the two other Senatorial district to produce a Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Captain Ichala Wada All of Kogi Eastern Senatorial District and Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello of Kogi Central, it is not out of place for Kogi Western Senatorial District to ask for her turn in the spirit of fairness and oneness.
We hereby pass a vote of confidence on the very distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi and call on all Kogi West Senatorial Political leaders, opinion molders and the general people to come together to actualize this great dream.
In the end we shall be able to identify the friends and foes of Kogi West Senatorial District.
