Ahead of the November 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, a group known as Progressive Political Movement (PPM), announced that it has commenced a door-to-door and ward-to-ward consultation to drum up support for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka and it’s deputy, Mr Sam Ranti Abenemi.
This was disclosed by the Director- General of the PPM, Alhaji Gimba Lokoja, on Tuesday evening at the SDP Secretariat in Lokoja.
Gimba reiterated that the move was to express appreciation for Ajaka’s consideration of the former PDP deputy chairman, Sam Ranti Abenemi, for the deputy governorship slot and to further sensitise their people on why SDP remained the party to vote for come November 11.
The development is coming few days after the official presentation of Abenemi as Ajaka’s running mate.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Gimba Lokoja disclosed that people in Kogi East, Central and West are prepared to vote SDP in the November election as a means of sending the ruling All Progressives Congress APC away from Kogi State due to the non performance of the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello.
He said, “We shall take our campaigns house to house, ward by ward and organize a sensitization programme on voters’ rights and power and why SDP should be voted for.
The PPM Director-General said the essence of the campaign was to sensitise the people at the grassroots on where and why they should put their finger prints for Ajaka during the November 11 governorship election.
“Ajaka, is the man that can move Kogi forward, a man that can make the state great again,” he added.
Continuing, Gimba stressed that the ‘Rescue Mission’ slogan of the party is going to take Kogi to greater heights.
He said “It’s now glaring and obvious to Kogites that the change they are yearning for is here. Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the SDP governorship flagbearer is contesting the 2023 election in order to add value, end godfatherism and make a difference in Kogi State that has long suffered poor governance by the incumbent governor of the state.
