A Support Group has warned those destroying billboards displaying congratulatory messages for His Excellency, Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo’s court victory, sponsored by a staunch party supporter, Comrade Abubakar Segeer, to desist from such acts as it was inimical to the growth of democracy.
The supporters warned the alleged perpetrators to stop the act, saying that they were intimidated by Abubakar’s sagacity and popularity.
Speaking on Lokoja Street on Friday after inspecting one of the dismantled billboards, leader of the group, Mr. Emmanuel David, said the destruction would not help anyone as it is the Omala people who can decide their future leaders.
“We heard on good authority that it was some individuals who sent their boys to remove all the billboards in Lokoja that Comrade Abubakar Segeer mounted for Governor Ododo during the last electioneering campaigns just because they felt intimidated by Abubakar Segeer’s popularity in the area.”
David, who was visibly angry when he visited the scene of one of the billboards in Lokoja, said the billboards, which displayed congratulatory messages for Governor Ododo’s significant victory at the Court of Tribunal and Appeal, were also dismantled in Lokoja.
David said Comrade Abubakar Segeer had secured all the stands for Ododo’s campaign since 2023 and was annoyed that they (the billboards) were being destroyed.
He added, “Segeer is a man who plans in whatever he wants to do. He paid and secured all of the spots across the state, signed an MoU with the owners, and paid fully before mounting the billboards.
“This kind of ugly development is capable of scaring private investors from the state. This is why we have to be very careful as a group and individuals in our actions.
“We are going to replace the billboard right now and we hope it will not be tampered with again.
“We have been patient enough; they must not provoke us. Our patience must not be taken for granted. Kogi is a peaceful state. We must allow peace to prevail,” David warned.
Moreso, a picture was taken of someone attempting to destroy the billboards and while he was vandalizing the billboard and loading the pieces into his car before driving off.
The identity of this individual is unknown, but the photo has been made available to the public in hopes of identifying him.
Comrade Shehu Abubakar Segeer is known as a peace-loving man, a philanthropist, and a youth developer who is working hard for the progress and unity of the APC not only in Omala but across the eastern senatorial district of Kogi state.
