The Action Alliance, (AA), governorship candidate, for Kogi State, Engr Olayinka Braimoh, has received the backing of the Concerned Group for Justice & Democracy (CONJAD), a pressure group that advocates for the principles of democracy and good governance.
The group’s Director-General, Mr. Moses Emmanuel, made the announcement on Monday in Lokoja at a press conference.
Although being non-partisan in its support for effective leadership at all levels, according to Emmanuel, CONJAD’s stance on Braimoh is in the “overall best interest of Kogi State.”
“At this juncture in the leadership trajectory of our dear state, we need to look beyond party interests and sentiments, and settle for someone with the necessary competency and character to lift Kogi from its current quagmire.
“Having carefully x-rayed all the governorship candidates of the various political parties, we are of a strong conviction that with the emergence of Engr Olayinka Braimoh as governor, Kogi State will be restored to its glory.
“We are not politicians, CONJAD is made up of professionals from Kogi state, that seek better Governance.
“As advocates of good leadership, part of our goal is to support anyone that can deliver the dividends of democracy, drive the economy and lift people from hunger, especially at the grass root.
“This is not about the sentiment of my party or not my party, but about the individual with the pedigree to deliver on basic infrastructure and job creation, especially for our teeming youths and secure the future of Kogi people, and the time is now.
Also speaking at the event, the group’s head of Contact and Mobilization, Pauline Omada, said the group was working assiduously to ensure that massive votes were delivered to Engr Braimoh across the state come November.
She, therefore, called on “Kogites”, especially youths and women to shun voting along party lines and vote for the individual with the requisite antecedence to rescue the state.
“We want to influence voters directly for Engr Olayinka Braimoh because we are sure when he gets into government, things will be better for our people and we want our youths and women to understand this clearly,” she added.
